The examples of wind compensation below are for nights (0-6 hours UTC) in winter (Jan, Feb, Mar, Oct, Nov, Dec) in 2018. Showing the compensation for nights avoids the large fossil generation in day time which is necessary to compensate demand peaks.
The plots show that when wind generation is low fossil generation is increased.
The plots indicate that for Denmark and Germany exports (-) are large for high wind generation and low or imports (+) for low wind.
